The idea that started the Jungle Lodge trip started with Gary Leong, one of its founding members, who continues to be a regular visitor to Cat Tien National Park. Since 1996, whenever he was free from company work or travel, Gary spent his time bird watching, trail hunting, mountain biking, or simply camping with rangers in the park.
Realizing that the world's natural sites and ecosystems are being ravaged by overpopulation, greed, or a lack of understanding in nature conservation, Gary made his mission to promote a better appreciation and conservation of our natural world.
The above ideas would hardly have been realized without the involvement of the second founding member - Duong Thi Ngoc Phuong, widely known as "Chi Phuong". She is the taskmaster and problem solver without which Jungle Lodge would have had a hard time getting started. Chi Phuong's initial enrollment to participate in a project near a large jungle in Vietnam began to evolve after many visits to the park. Her awareness of the natural beauty of the park and the unspoilt life of the countryside became a reason why she became increasingly involved in the project.
With the vision of being "Your Window into Nature", Cat Tien Jungle Lodge invites adventure-loving travelers and everyone in between to discover nature's mysteries, appreciate it’s splendors, bask in its wonders and, if you are truly interested in nature conservation, join them in the effort to protect it for the long term.
Jungle Lodge is located near Cat Tien National Park, about 150km northeast (about 2.5 hours by car) from Ho Chi Minh City. Cat Tien National Park is one of six UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserves in Vietnam. Here visitors can find one of only two wetlands of international importance (Ramsar) in Vietnam (Bau Sau or Crocodile Lake). The Park is home to a large variety of beautiful birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the incredibly rich biodiversity of a tropical rainforest that one subscribes to with wildlife when one ventures into its bosom. To contribute to the originality of the place is also a small community of ethnic minorities of Tay & Ma who live in the surrounding boundaries of the park.
Cat Tien National Park also contains a reserve for Vietnam's Natural Plant and Animal Gene Pool, where rare and endemic fauna and flora are conserved within the park's 71,920-hectare landmass. Its unique terrain, climate, and ability to support up to five different forest types are factors that have made Cat Tien National Park home to a diverse range of plant and animal species. The Park connects the South Truong Son Highland with the South Delta Mountain range to form this special ecosystem.
